World Poetry Day

Dee Doanes Writer and Artist

Today is World Poetry Day! Yah!! Most people don’t know that I’m  a poet and that I actually got started my professional writing as a poetry. Later on I went on to publish short stories and start my own line of greeting cards.

Here is a poem I wrote, that’s in my paranormal, mystery fiction novel, “The Man With the Green Suitcase,” with the same title. I hope you enjoy my poem on this wonderful World Poetry Day!

       By Dee Doanes

Do you see him? Do you see him?

There he is walking down the street

on trembling legs, with a green suitcase.

I wonder what’s inside?

I wonder where he is going?

He’s not walking fast. He’s not walking slow.

He’s just walking. Just walking.

Look at his face, a map of places he’s been.

It tells of the journey to Hell and back.

Back bent from toiling in the sun,

from doing hard work for little or no pay.

Each gray in his hair has a story all its own,

of children that died and loves that were lost.

He’s not walking fast. He’s not walking slow.

He’s just walking. Just walking.

He’s carrying his soul in the green suitcase.

His face filled with sweat. His eyes filled with fire.

He’s waiting to be reborn.

Until then, he’s just walking. Just walking.

Not walking fast, not walking slow.

Just walking. Just walking.
